Mexican Colonial Art Discovery
We were blown away to learn that a priceless piece of 18th Century Mexican Colonial art has been found by Christina Jones Janssen -- granddaughter of Gregory & Harriet Jones, who owned and resided in The Adobe property in downtown Sonoma from 1947 to 1996, and spent years restoring the property.

According to the LA Times, Janssen inherited the piece from her father, who wasn't sure of the painting's provenance, but encouraged his daughter to look into it at some point.
The painting proved to be a lost work by Miguel Cabrera (1715-1768), considered one of the greatest painters of his era in Mexico City.
"Ilona Katzew, LACMA curator of Latin American art and a leading casta scholar, called it 'easily the most important Mexican Colonial painting to come to market in years.'"
The painting was acquired by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and will go on view on April 26, 2015.
